Arquitecturas del poder. Emulación y pervivencias en América y el sudeste asiático (1746-1808) | (PID2021-122170NB-I00)

Introduction

Traditionally, history of architecture has tried to differ from the designs of engineers and those from architects, clarifying a dispute which is clearly evident in the nineteenth century. On the contrary, in previous dates the participation of engineers was not devoted exclusively to defensive architecture. More specifically, they increased their presence in royal works in the second half of the eighteenth century, specially in the American and southeast Asian context. In order to recover their likely transfer of knowledge between the military and the courtesan world, this international conference calls for scientific contributions focused on both how engineers of this period of time contributed to change the common architectural approach to palaces or gardens; or how their increasing experience in courtesan spaces could affect the design of (military) residences in fortifications, barracks, and even private houses or states.
